The Foresters Inn, Lower Cumberworth

Bad news im afraid. Pub closed again about 6 weeks ago. Shame as staff, food, beer and atmosphere was all good. Fingers crossed it re-opens shortly. Seems to be getting into a bit of a cycle. Worry is everytime it closes that it isn't going to re-open, but thats the same with any pub today.

The pub reopened 21st August 2011. Really nice people running the pub. Good beer and really excellent food. Fingers crossed and its early days, but the signs are promising. Currently two real ales, smiths, 3 lagers, guiness, etc. Wine of the month, 10 for red, white or rose. Food very very good indeed. They also have the Wheatsheaf and Little Gomersal.

Lunch is 6.50 (Mon-Sat 12-2). Mains in evenings 10, starters 5 (Mon Sat 6-10). Food quality and quantity really superb. Sunday (12-6) 9 1 course 12 for 2 or 15 for 3. I doubt anyone wouldn't want a pudding, but equally doubt you'd be able to manage one.

I'll post an update later, but things definately seem on the up.

I meant beer not ' bear' just in case the thought of a grizzly put you off.

Really nice honest drinking pub. Very friendly with good choice of beer. Our local closed recently and several people from our villagve now frequent. Made very welcome by the landlord and landlady. Good pub and good beer. Sounds simple, but not many are getting it as right as this.

Wow. Its superb. Don't let the secret out, although I suspect plenty do know. Brilliant food and even better bear. Thank heavens I don't live in Emley or I'd be in the divorce courts!

Sorry to see it go, but has been shut for six months and now change of use has been granted. Goodbye.

At present it needs a wide berth. No food, no heating, minimal lighting. It is such a sorry state of affairs I hardly know where to start. The best thing I could say it leave well alone and hope the death is short, albeit not painless for those locals who really loved this pub. Hopefully I'll be able to post in the near future that this pub has turned the corner and you should all come and visit. I and the rest of the village would love to meet you, but I'm afraid that at present you'd be stood in a inhospitable frozen tundra on your own. Best wishes for the future of this pub, if it has one?

Its true the pubs gone down hill at a million miles an hour. As they say, my comments were correct at time of going to press. I would whole heartedly now agree with fluiddmotion's and fionacw's comments. I really hope it can keep going through what looks like difficult time ahead.

It's difficult, as being a regular I want to support the pub and see it be a success. But how can you support a pub in which the landlord is so unfriendly with hit and miss beer and a don't care attitude to new customers and regulars alike?

Had to update this page as getting a bit dated. Rileys have moved on Nov 2008. A new landlord in residence that last four months has really improved things. The food is very good and extremely reasonable. Lots of real ales, with Landlord, Cumberland and Adnams always available. Note still shut Mondays. Open all day Saturday and Sunday. Last food orders 6-30pm on Sunday, but about 9pm the rest of the week. Really nice pub for either food or drink (or both). Well behaved children a more than welcome. I really like the pub and the food. Hope it stays this way!
