Red House, Croxley Green

Been here with my family two or three times since my last report, wow what a difference on the food front, got to be the best value pub for food in watford, burgers definately the best in town. Drinks good value for money wide selection of lagers including Peroni on draft and 3 real ales, staff really friendly and always a smile to be had, wouldnt hesitate to recommend this pub for a good value meal, its nothing fancy just good quality food at value for money prices, well done to the landlord you've turned a run down dodgy pub at times to something to be proud of.

Ive been a frequent customer over the years and have posted positive and negative notes regarding this pub, tried it again on sunday after a long walk with the family and the dog we stopped by not expecting it to be open, it was 12.10pm, but the pub was open and yes both fires were lit and roaring, the lady behind the bar couldnt of been more welcoming and helpful, met with a lovely smile and even carried drinks outside for me because my hands were full. Beer was on top form just wish i'd had the time to have more than just the two I hope they are doing something at easter, appears a lot of renovation is underway so maybe looks good for the future, praise where praise is due.

I havnt been here for a while because the standard dropped considerably, but was in the area with my family last sunday (december 27) and thought we'd give it a second chance didnt expect much with it being just after christmas but i have to say its really turned around the food was good the service friendly and fantastic value for money, the pub was quite empty but im sure as word gets around that this is now a great place for a cheap meal and a decent pint that people will start coming back Well done the new managers

What a pity, what type of customer does he think he's going to get then out there in the middle of nowhere its only dog walkers and ramblers that would ever make the effort to go there a sad loss when Ken and Lea left what a pub they turned it into a really friendly home from home good luck to Ken and Lea whever they go, and i think ill be taking my custom elsewhere Stanley certainly wouldnt want to go somewhere where he is not wanted and neither would I. (stanley is my dog by the way)

Been back to this pub every sunday and a few days in the week keep telling myself that walking the dog is good for me but dont really know whether its the friendly welcome, good beer, and all round welcoming atmosphere i get at the old fox at the end of the walk or the exercise, who am I kidding this pub is great a complete turnaround, well done the new landlord and landlady.

Stopped by here on saturday 28th feb with the wife kids and dog after a long walk, yep new landlord in place and very friendly too, had a wonderful couple of pints of blacksheep in superb condition, pub seemed to be very busy, word has obviously got around, large variety of bottled ales as well as draft, and what was a really nice touch was being offered the choice of a straight glass or a jug, you dont see that much anymore, would recommend this traditional english country pub to any one, will definately be back

Just read on the Watford Observer website that this pub is opening under a new landlord and is planning to specialise in real ale and home cooked food with childrens activities at easter and opening up the large beer garden with bbq's in the summer hope he makes a success of it as i used to love visiting this pub before it went drastically down hill, if he pulls it off ill defintely be back dog an all

Attempted to have a pint and a sit by the fire on monday 2nd feb after spending all morning in the snow with the kids, doors were all locked and the lights turned off, at least a dozen other people were hanging around at the same time hoping to get a pint either its now closed, or just couldnt be bothered to open

Was passing this pub with my family on the way back from a dogs rescue centre that we visited, pulled in on a whim for a spot of lunch, when we arrived we were asked if we had booked, seems to have a strong local following as well the staff couldnt have been more helpful they put us on a table that was booked for 2pm we were there at just past 12, the food wasnt cheap but was very good value for money the roasts were fantastic and the ale top notch would recommend to any one but would recommend booking a table if you intend to eat as it gets really busy, pub was also very dog friendly

Went in here on sunday 4th hoping to have a meal, but the chef was off that day and the menu was a bit limited, then got annoyed at a customer who was wheat intolerant constantly going on about it, and asking the barman to check if the gravey was gluton free give the barman some due he did and again when the customer then asked about vegetarian gravy, by then id had enough after wating 15 mins for my ale i drank up and left and went to the goat, not the pubs fault but some customers should just be shot

Went here on sunday 4th May, thought the pub to be relatively quite considering the friendly and effecient welcome we received, beer was top quality pulled by a very attentive barmaid, they chef seemed to be very proud of his food, and justly so we had the sunday roast which was lovely all home made including the yorkshires would definitely return, and would not hesitate to recommend this pub to anybody else, well worth a visit, this pub ticks all the boxes
