Foxley Hatch, Purley

Has been my local for years now, although I tend either to go on Friday nights or Monday nights (for the Monday Club!) and have found it to be a great pub. Food served quickly and bar staff friendly. Also, the crowd in there is generally friendly (especially compared to the other pubs in Purley!). Would definitely recommend. As for crticisms about lacking atmosphere, I find that being able to talk to my friends in a pub gives the place more atmosphere than which brand of music is blasting.

A Bar 2 Far, Tooting Broadway

Maybe slightly against the idea of B.I.T.E., but I've been there a few times for lunch and found the place amazing. Have sat in the beer garden (v. spacious) and have lovely (cheap!) food with waiter service on the food and drinks from friendly staff. They will also take our food orders over the phone before we arrive so that we can get the job done in a lunch hour. Have never had a problem with dress code there even though I'm always wearing trainers, but I must admint this was at lunchtimes.

The Selkirk, Tooting

The service at this pub is exemplary. You can pre-order your food online or over the phone so that if you have a tight 1-hour lunch break, you can comfortably go there and the food will come staight to you.

Also, they make a real effort to serve everyone on a table at the same time which really makes a difference.

This is not a cheap pub to eat or drink at, but their grub is genuinely home-made.

The menu has changed twice in the last month - check the web version to make sure you're up to date.

The Castle, Tooting Broadway

The Castle is a good pub to go for lunch in, although it is a little pricey (food and drinks).

The staff are polite and the service is good.

They do have some problems with food orders not making it from the bar to the kitchen, so when groups of us have gone there, one person usually ends up having to eat theirs when everyone else has finished! However, when this has happened, the staff can be encouraged to give a free drink to the poor sod who's not eating - or refund the cost of their meal.

From the inside, this is probably the classiest looking pub I have been to in Tooting.

JJ Moons, Tooting

This pub has been criticised for things that are out of their control (how can they stop people drinking because they are old??) and the clientele aren't aggressive or loud or drunk.

I think reviewers have confused the fact that this pub has a loyal customer base, who I have found to be quite friendly. The pub is a bit dark inside which I suppose could make it look sinister, but really that's it!

I visit occasionally for some good and cheap food, with a cheap drink. To some extent you do get what you pay for in terms of quantity, but their burgers are definitely bigger than a McDonalds of the same price.

The one criticism I do have of this pub is that the non-smoking area is at the back of the pub, next to the toilets and fire escape. When the fire escape is left open, the smoke gets sucked through the pub into the non-smoking section and out the fire escape.
