The Star, Dinas Powys

Came here for lunch with a relative.

Excellent food, very friendly staff. I only had a coke as it was a bit early in the day for me, but my companion had the Brains Bitter which went down very well.

Altogether, a very pleasant experience.

Woodville Hotel, Cathays

Popped in here after attending a function at the University.

Was here for about an hour (8-9pm), and while it was busy with students they were all a friendly bunch. Background music via TV screens not intrusive. A surprising number of beers on tap - I went for the Brains Smooth which was well kept.

Also ate a burger and chips here. Service was swift and the food delicious. May possibly get 'rammed' later in the evening / weekends, but on my visit was very pleasant.

The Mouse, Westbury on Trym

Always a friendly welcome from Elaine and Billy. Beautiful views from the large beer garden.

Can get a bit crowded at times, but is understandable for a small pub. Would be marked higher if there was a larger selection of real ales.

The Quantock, Bridgwater

Came here for a family meal. Not overly impressed by the food - it was OK but nothing special.

Had a pint of Bishops Finger which was rather tasteless - mostly lagers on tap. Not a pub if you fancy a decent beer. Even though they are trying to attract a family audience, the whole place seemed lacking in friendliness and local cameraderie.

The Crown Inn, Bridgwater

I dropped in here as I had an hour long wait for a train from the nearby station.

Although I had intruded on their quiz night, was made to feel more than welcome. Very friendly landlord and landlady and a fantastic pint of Puffing Billy. Small but perfectly formed pub, well worth checking out if you're in the area.
