The Jolly Judge, Edinburgh

Lovely wee hidden away gem. Lived in Edinburgh for years and only found this through a guided tour (Edinburgh Literary pub tour - highly recommended). Lots of history to it - ask about beams on the ceiling (came from an old ship and are painted in original colours).

The Murrayfield Bar, Edinburgh

So many TV screens you can stand anywhere and see the match. Quiz has lots of popular culture questions as opposed to tradional geography / history stuff, so great fun if you are more into your Coronation Street that your coronation dates.

The New Inn, West Town

Cosy, quiet pub with great atmosphere. Fairly classy restaurant attached, specialises in fish, we've had a great roast beef Sunday lunch. Sometimes has folk singers - not normally our thing but they do seem to get in the best, sometimes have play along / singalong folk thing going.

The George Inn, Farleigh

Brilliant pub quiz on Monday night 9pm, get there early for a seat, lots of big brains, prizes per round as well as at end, traditional questions / format. Huge choice of good food too. Only criticism is gets very smokey in bar area (roll on 2007).

The Pear Tree, Edinburgh

Don't go here unless you are aged 18 to 25. We had the most depressing night at the (packed)pub quiz - how could all these spotty yoofs possible be cleverer than us?! Must have been the non-traditional questions.
