Old Volunteer, Carlton

There is always 6+ real ales on from Flipside and other breweries plus usually a real cider or two. Always well kept this is an excellent pub for tasting some beers and having a chat. Sometimes has live music on a folky genre it seems. Now does hot food - mainly artisan burgers etc but not tired one yet.

Worlds End Inn, Lowdham

A very good pub, compact but charming interior and excellent food - best to book a table as it's nearly always full. Real ales served.

The Copper Beech, Newark

Popped by recently (autumn 2016) and it's been done up in the recent past. Now a smart but rustic looking pub. Didn't eat but plenty of people were so it obviously has a reputation for its Sunday lunches. Couple of real ales. Mine was at the end of the barrel and really past it best so will go back another time to see if that was just a one-off. Has a beer garden.

The Willowbrook, Nottingham

Very extensive range of real ales and ciders. Good food and noted for its brilliant weekend breakfasts (with a gluten free version of their excellent full English also available).

The Bread and Bitter, Mapperley

Overall the best pub in this part of Nottingham. Brilliant range of real ales plus very decent food. The pizzas or Caribbean chicken are recommended. They have a card scheme where you get a free pint with 8 stamps, so worth asking for the stamps if you are in a large group. It's hidden from view - it's up the drive to the right of the Wetherspoons. Only criticism is it is often very busy and the walls reflective of noise so not brilliant for quiet conversation. A couple of tables outside, but no real garden.

The Phoenix, Nottingham

Largish local, under new management. Friendly and they have skittles and pool team and weekly quiz night plus other events on some evenings. But no real ales served, nearest being Newcastle Brown Ale in bottles or Theakston Mild on keg. They have a hand pump fitted but never used. The only local in the urban area with the next nearest all serving real ale.

The Godolphin Arms, Godolphin Cross

Pleasant local pub with nice little beer garden. Two good real ales, though no food the Friday evening we went. Everyone in the pub was very friendly, saying hello.
