The Portland Arms, St Albans

Always found this pub to be very friendly and food good standard and well priced.
May not be packed out all the time (try Waterend Barn for that), but excellent to start or end a walk round the park next to a real fire, with good food and a decent pint from a good selection.
Lots goes on here with live music and other activities, a really good local pub that deserves praise not knocking.

The Verulam Arms, St Albans

Good news!
This pub is due to open again on the 21st November 2010 under new management.
Let's hope they bring back decent food and hopefully this great little pub will survive.
Much better than making it into flats!

Blue Anchor, St Albans

The Blue Anchor; It is not really a pub, but quite nice to sit at the tables by the river Ver on a warm evening (although you are right next to the large car park).
I would recommend the food and have enjoyed the times I have visited, although not 'pub grub' prices!

Bar 62, St Albans

John the landlord has really got this place working. Burgers are great and roast at weekend very good value.

Garden area is lovely and excellent use of the space available.

Yes it's a little more expensive for drinks than Weatherspoons, but pay a little more and you get something nicer.

The Verulam Arms, St Albans

This pub is I'm very sad to say shut, and planning has been applied for a change into flats.

What a real shame, agree with last comment posted though that it really went downhill after a revival when it started serving great food after a small re-fit some years ago.

If it doesn't compete as a business this I suppose it what happens.
