The Eagle Ale House, Clapham

Excellent. There was football on but it didn't distract from the experience - there was a cosy TV-free area.

There was even a quality choice of ciders behind the bar.

Worth the walk from Clapham Junction (and definitely worth the smug walk back past the Bar Whatevas).

The Albion, South Norwood

Friendly enough but 3 for a Carling? :-S

Clifton Arms, South Norwood

S'ok.

Seems to have changed hands recently although there's still a sign on the outside saying the boozer was seeking new tenant landlords.

London Pride seemed okay to me.

The Sharman's Cross, Solihull

It's the only pub for miles around - no wonder it's a 'something for everyone' pub.

But not for me, thanks.

What a transformation. The new manager (well, not so new now) has turned this around - I'm sure it won Pub of the Year for Solihull last year.

The Chinese counter is a bit 'Phoenix Nights' :-D but there always seems to be a new guest bitter every time (which makes my pal very excited) and sport is very well catered for.

And was that a pole-dancing stage I saw in the other bar...?

The Railway, Tulse Hill

Popped in here a couple of weeks back - they've sorted themselves out for 1 July - nice new covered veranda etc.

But 3 for a Fosters and the toilets are STILL minging.

The Horns, West Norwood

Probably the best local I've had.

I don't smoke but I do sometimes wonder what'll happen to the place after 1 July...

Will report back.

The Railway, Tulse Hill

The beer garden is great but there's no way they can justify serving Fosters at nearly 3/pint. In Tulse Hill!?

And the toilets could do with a refit.

The Blue Posts, Piccadilly

Ask the Chinese (I presume) barman when he's working for a special 'green lager'. Top!

Ryans Bar, Blackfriars

Yes the barmaids are pleasant enough but one does miss the Polish lass that ran the show for a while.

And always order the shared dips.

Liked the 'local' feel - brilliant antidote to the crush that is Waxy's a few doors down. Somewhere you could take your folks to for a quiet sit-down.

Extra point to the landlord for serving lager in the correctly-branded glasses.

The Pillars of Hercules, Soho

Only thing I recall about this place is that it had the WORST toilet in the world.

Think 'Trainspotting' and you're somewhere near...

The Horns, West Norwood

Would echo the earlier comment - it's a lot more friendly than it looks. Typical Sarf London boozer - when the blonde barmaid wears a T-shirt, it's a winner.

Played pool and watched footy here with no trouble, Carling Extra Cold served in labelled glasses. Just opposite West Norwood station, too.

Ryans Bar, Blackfriars

Well-run place. The shared plate of nibbles is a winner, just what you need when you watching the footy with your pals.

They get in Cheeky Girl type barmaids when there's a big match on so you can't really go wrong with the service.

One time I even won a Fosters mitt. Gotta be a lucky bar, this.

The Sharman's Cross, Solihull

Horrible and suburban. Either grannies dining out for lunch or middle-aged men in jeans and white trainers in the evening.

If you walk in dressed in anything approaching cool, you'll be asked to leave. Fact.
