The Boddington Arms, Balderstone

Stayed a few nights for B & B - not very impressed. Staff friendly enough, but accommodation run down, breakfast minimal (just cereal and toast, but some soggy scrambled egg was produced on request), so we dined and drank elsewhere in the evenings.

The Traders Arms, Mellor

As others have said, this pub concentrates on food, which is just about acceptable. The Guinness was a bit warm.

There must be better ones in the area.....

The Black Dog, Belmont

Although we arrived late for lunch, a good selection was available, good food, cheerful service and some nice cool Guinness were very welcome.

The Cock Inn, Ringmer

Went there for lunch at 12.30pm. Very picturesque setting, promising looking menu by the door.

Unfortunatly there was a very long queue just to give your order - and get a drink. Joined the queue. Then noticed lots of tables occupied by people with drinks, cutlery, but no food.

After ten minutes, in which the queue had not moved, nor had any waiters/waitresses appeared with food for the starving hordes at the tables, we cut our losses and left - to dine at a rival establishment (The Old Ship) about a mile further on.

A pity - it looked a very nice pub. A victim of its own success? A staff problem?

We will probably give them another chance - and turn up for lunch at 11.50 am - meanwhile would value other posters comments

The Old Ship, Ringmer

Visited for lunch. Good range of beers.

Pleasant deco, and outside tables in a well kept garden.

Food adequate, although a side salad consisted of a handful of lettuce leaves and two wafers of raw carrot. To be fair, a complaint to the waitress rapidly produced some additional components - sliced cucumber and tomato. Our complaint produced shocked disapproval from an adjacent table!

It's considered "Not British" to complain -which is why catering standards are so abysmal in many places.

Complain where necessary - keep them on their toes!

The Inkerman Arms, Rye Harbour

Excellent food, large portions!

Service usually fairly swift at the bar, you may have to wait a little while for the food if they are busy.

Interesting decor - fishing boats and local fish - some of which are on the menu.
