The Old Neptune, Whitstable

This is the sort of pub I really want to like but unfortunately my one trip there this weekend was marred by rubbish bar staff, who really didn't seem particulary bothered about serving, & the plastic cups used to serve the mediocre beer (although I suspect the plastic cups aren't their choice).

I'll definitely be back to Whitstable but not to The Old Neptune!

The Bent Arms, Lindfield

My wife & I returned to the Bent Arms recently having been away for a while & were as impressed as ever with the quality of the food. The steak sandwich was particularly good with special praise going to the home baked bread.

A few days later we went back for the three course weekday special (all for 9.50) & although the menu is pretty short the food was as good as ever & at that price it has to be the best value anywhere in Mid-Sussex - make the most of the offer while it lasts.

Bull, Ditchling

As locals my wife & I thought we'd give The Bull a go for sunday lunch, having not been there for years but unfortunately we won't be going back.
I can't comment on the beer, as I was driving but the food was distinctly disappointing. It's a pub that's selling average food at restaurant prices. I echo the previous comment about the stuffed lamb - two thin slivers of okay lamb with a small selection of okay veg, at the princely sum of 13.00. My aged mother cleared her plate leaving plenty of room for dessert (& this from a lady that's not known for her large appetite). Thank goodness we didn't take our teenage boys otherwise it would've taken three main courses just to fill them up - & I am not exagerating. You can tell from the decor in the gents that it's ot ideas above the ability of the chef. Having said that the service was great...

The Bent Arms, Lindfield

The Bent Arms has always sold a good selection of well kept beers and continues to do so. Add to that a restaurant that serves quality, good value food in very pleasant surroundings and what more could you ask for?

My wife and I were so impressed with the place that we even had our wedding reception there a couple of years ago and were not disappointed. Howard and his staff did themselves proud.

Try it out on a sunny day and if you fancy a diversion between beers, wander up and down the High Street for a while - lovely!
