Drift, Poole

Small, friendly, cacker-free bar. Live music at the weekend and a weekly quiz.

The landlord's taste in music is questionable, but it's a minor thing.

Excellent choice of real cask and keg ale.

The Rising Sun, Wimborne

Its changed hands recently, with the landlords from the Albion in Wimborne taking over.

They are gamely attempting to improve the place, especially food wise: you know the score, sanries and bar snacks served on artisian wooden handled plates.

They do seem to be in constant arguments with various people: an aocoholic local worthy, the folk committee, punters having a go at their hound deficating in the garden.

The food I've had has been OK. Beer (Tanglefoot) is excellent.

The bar is full of local foul-mouthed cackers, especially on a Saturday afternoon. One charmer plonks his internet Asian bride on a sofa with a drink and an iPad, and slinks off with his gobby mates, making all the thick cacker comments you would expect from Dorset inbreds.

But I still go there. Beer is OK and I'm left on my own.

Darbys Corner Inn, Broadstone

Yet another victim of TMYNS! The "Pub Killer"!

One-Eyed Jacks, Gloucester

This gaff is very interesting. Firmly an adult pub, when I was there skittles and poker were in progress.

This is a real old-time boozer that has tons of activities and is full of colourful characters.

Beer OK. Atmosphere terrific.

The Kingsholm Inn, Gloucester

Locally known as "The Jockey". Gloucester town boozer. They all have a feel. Very similar to One Eyed Jacks in Tredworth.

I had Stowfords which was fine. Lovely mural done by a local man.

The Teague's Bar, Gloucester

Opposite Kingsholm - home to the most passionate rugby supporters I have ever met.

Stowfords was OK, and the place was buzzing pre-match. I'm glad it has not closed down. I was with some delightful company, who I miss very much.

The Goods Yard, Poole

Probably best described as a Gastro-Pub. Food has improved recently, but is quite pricey.

Atmosphere varies. Fridays are always busy, with meathead security on the door.

Spoilt sometimes by the baying horray henries from the nearby Golf Club.

London Pride is a good, as is the bar snack Scotch egg.

A tad too "smug" for my liking, but enjoyable.

The Bramshill Hunt, Arborfield

This place was very busy when I visisted the other Saturday, with a nice mix of people. The bar hasn't changed much, but the lounge has lovely, comfortable seats and has undergone a nice makeover.

Beer is still average, but the place has much improved.
