The Coventry Arms, Corfe Mullen

Stopped here on way down from London to Weymouth as we have many times before. Excellent meal, admittedly not that cheap, but good quality and with efficient friendly service and a really nice pint of Ringwood 49er to go with it, straight from the barrel, the best means of serving beer in my opinion. Surprised at some of the recent reviews, we've always found the pub charming and the food good.

The Compasses Inn, Damerham

Stayed here for the second time this year for the night. Beer really good, with Sharps Doom Bar and St Austell Tribute on as well asa couple of ales from the local Ringwood brewery, and food excellent (particularly recommend the wood pigeon). Bedrooms are little timeworn but comfortable, and a big plus is the landady Linda who is extremely engaging. Will certainly be back.

The King Charles I, Kings Cross

One of my favourite London pubs, which may be tucked away but is really handy for Kings X/St Pancras and Euston. We poped in early Saturday evening to a warm welcome and a lovely couple of pints of Brodie's - for me a local brew. It's got a really old fashioned unreconstructed feel that is miles away from the pretnetiousness that is sadly all too common these days. And if the toilets are - how can I put it - a little timeworn, this is more than compensated for by the very impressive jukebox,

Lambrettas Bar, Bath

Our traditional stop as visiting rugby supporters following the game at the Rec. If you are a real ale drinker don't be put off by the name or the relatively unprepossessing frontage, it's got a great atmosphere inside. The place was quite understandably heaving following the game but although the queue at the bar was three deep when we got there we were served very quickly by very friendly staff. Sadly the Bellringer was off but the Baker's Draft at 2 a pint was more than an adequate compensation. (Interesting a half pint was 1.40 - just confirms to me that if you are going to have a beer, there is no point in half measures!)

The Old Green Tree, Bath

Lovely city centre pub with a very intimate atmosphere. We found seats in the front bar through which you are served through a doorway, but the rest of the pub looked good too. Great pre rugby game atmosphere, ideal for us as visiting supporters, with lots of engaging and knowledgeable conversation with a bit of gentle banter thrown in. Had a few really enjoyable pints of Butcombe served by the very obliging landlord and his staff who work really hard. Didn't try the food but on my return I will be certain to leave space for a scotch egg which looked awesome!
