The Wheatsheaf Inn, Greetham

Oh please don't go here unless you absolutely have too.
I turn up around 6ish in the hopes of eating early and moving on elsewhere, but get told the kitchen won't be taking orders until 6:30. By this time I have made my mind up as to what to have, and wait for the staff to acknowledge my existence. Before seating I'm told to vacate the table by 8 as it will be needed for another booking. Hmmm..... very major issue with that statement. Found it hard to achieve as the food was served an hour after ordering at 7:30. Needless to say I was feeling very hungry by then. Noticing other diners didn't help. Apparently it all depends who you were. Holiday makers that probably won't come back - leave them waiting for as long as possible. Locals - Food will be with you in 20 mins. A resturant reviewer - food there before you've orderered it. This selectivness didn't go down well and neither did the staff's attire or lack of it.
This place was trying to be 3 things: resturant, country pub and local boozer, and failed on all. Do you really need the main entrance to the bar to cut though the resturant when people are trying to eat, or not?

The Black Horse Inn, Greetham

*ATTENTION*

As I write this, this pub has been cleared out by the Bailiffs and is seeking new tenants. We pulled into the car parking too late to find this out.

The Black Bull Inn, Market Overton

A lovely village pub, everything you would expect once you go away from the tourist areas.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Enough choice on the menu. Had a short wait but not too long as all dishes were prepared from fresh ingredients. Presentation was well thought through and taste was everything. Have to admit it was the best meal of all our holiday, so much so we stayed for dessert. Finding it hard to fault.

Sun Inn, Cottesmore

A lovely village pub that still manages to retain its charm. Very fairly priced food, but (being a veggie) had to make do with one choice from the menu. Great portions but the source was bland. I had it on good authority that the meat dishes were nothing to shout about either.
While I was there one fellow diner had 3 steaks sent back to the kitchen.
A few local beers are on tap and after working though them the favourite was Sunchaser from Everards.
Most of the staff were friendly bar one whom we thought had forgotten our presence after being seated towards the back of the pub.
