The Swan and Three Cygnets, Durham

This has to be one of my favourite Durham pubs and if you can get a seat in the beer garden in summer you will certainly enjoy a relaxing real ale.

Market Tavern, Durham

A wonderful old english pub that is hundreds of years old, but does not let you down on quality. This place is very popular and in a wonderful area near the cathedral and in Durham Market Place. Very nice Ale too.

The Honest Lawyer, Durham

Recently ate here and the food was very good, as was the atmosphere, surroundings and the staff. I shall return with the rest of the family for an extremely tastey selection of food. Very impressed and surprised at how busy and popular the Honest Lawyer has become.

Bishops Mill, Durham

Nice pub/bar split into 3 sections with huge open spaces in the middle near the bar area and seated area in very nice surroundings around the corner. This place is so large it could hold 200 people and you wouldnt know it. I really like this place to relax during the day for food however on a Friday and Saturday it can get quite busy. There always seems to be quite a wait to be served, sometimes bordering on reciculous. One day I waited over 25 minutes to be served a drink when busy. I would suggest a quieter bar around the corner? Or more staff to help with congestion at busy times?

The Court Inn, Durham

The Food has gone significantly down hill here. Anything basic like a sandwich and you're fine but why have steaks on a menu if you cant get anyone to cook them? The staff are generally friendly bar one or two who have no communication skills. It also seems a little worrying to see the "cook" sat at the table next to you eating her tea at 6pm on a Sunday. Who is cooking our meal I have just paid 40 for? She was very pleasant though and told us to wait for the happy hour. Nice lady, if what was happening wasnt so strange. I pray the kitchen is nothing like the toilets in The Court Inn. I doubt that is possible though as they would be in serious trouble if that were so. There are nicer places to eat in Durham these days if you look around. Places that have "Chefs" rather than just "Cooks".
