The Duke of Norfolk, Brighton

Nice enough place, excellent open mic night on Tuesday.

The Black Horse Inn, Byworth

A brilliant country pub hidden away in a charming little village, visit on a warm summer evening, sit in the stunning garden, absorb the tranquil views, finally decide on what you want eat, feast, give thanks to the landlord and leave with a sense of wellbeing and contentment.

A must. Wow!

The Star Inn, Steyning

Stumbled in the Star on Christmas Eve and it was nice to discover that some things never change. The Star is your standard proper village pub. Standard pub food and stadard pub prices, your standard selection of beers and ales. Friendly locals and really quite cosey when the fire's going.

The White Horse, Steyning

Hadn't been to the White Horse for a number of years, returned to find a good selection of lagers and poor selection of ales.

From here it all went a bit downhill, the decor was a bit of shock, the white horse of old was a tobacco stained youth club, the new white horse is a homage to all things bright and shiney which sits rather awkwardly in an old village pub.

The service is pretty unforgivable (had to wait ten minutes to get served whilst the two malnourished barstaff struggled with a coffee and a cocktail).

Whilst I haven't had a chance to sample the offerings on the restaurant menu, the main pub menu is limited to the chef's half-arsed attempt to drag the ploughmans lunch kicking and screaming into the 21st century; a selection of meats, breads, cheese and rocket salad on a chopping board, rustic food at pretentious wine bar prices, but if you're looking for decent pub food look elsewhere.
