Ellwyn, Grangemouth

Brutal. Avoid, or expect to see one's life expectancy plummet.
Don't even stop in my car to use the cash machine over the road here, it's that bad.

The Auld Tonn Tavern, Grangemouth

Good lager. Well run pub.
Some people say the Auld Tooners are unfriendly, but I haven't found this, and I'm not a native. I didn't go in acting like I owned the place, which may well be the difference though. Respect them, they'll leave you alone.
This place was much better when it had a pool table, but apparently there were two many fights?
Can be a bit empty at weekends these days, but is pleasant to sit outside during periods of good weather.
Not been in the restaurant, but the bar food was good enough. Would prob venture to Wallace's for dinner if I got hungry out that way though.

Laffertys, Grangemouth

Do you like to fight?
Are you averse to intelligent conversation?
Yes?
Then get yourself down the Tav, you'll be right at home!
I'll be honest, this place can, CAN, be ok through the week, when it's empty and you can watch the football without fear of being assaulted.
At weekends however, wow. I didn't even know these people existed in Grangemouth. It's a saddening experience in here on weekends. You almost WANT beat up just so you can escape the misery and enjoy the sweet sweet nothingness that is a coma.
I'll give this a 4, just because I can't give it a 3, like Wetherspoon's.

Earl of Zetland, Grangemouth

Cant believe this had an average rating of 7. What a terrible place this is.
Due to the cheapness (and inherent nastiness, i might add) of the lager here, it's filled during the day with jakeys, then at night, it tends to be Tav overspill and young teenys who don't know what a good pub is. Don't be surprised to find people in tracky bottoms on a friday night. You can get jeans at Asda for 3 quid ffs! Use the money you're saving by drinking the cheap lager here!
Oh, and in winter time, you may as well be sat in the Leapark beer garden for all the heat you get whilst in this place. It's brutally cold, despite the standalone leg-burners that they dot around the place.
Avoid.

The Oxgang House Hotel, Grangemouth

This used to be an excellent pub when Bill & Karen ran it, with the service focused on the locals, but also accommodating the 'nomads' who use it whilst working at the refinery.
It then received a facelift upon changing hands, and has never been the same since. Whilst it may look slightly better, it now finds itself almost going for the 'wine bar' feel, putting it directly in the firing line of the 'glamour' of the Leapark and it's pretentious cretins that frequent it.
Still, you are able to go in here, most times, and leave with one's limbs/teeth/jewellery still attached, which is why it's still light years ahead of such monstrosities as the Ellwyn or Bowhouse.
