The Carmans Inn, Crossgar

Just had my second visit there this evening. The barman birthed my Guinness in three well judged pulls, while engaging me in conversation about global politics. Finally attending to the intimate presentation of the glass with a soft cloth and a 360 degree inspection of his creation. Nuff said.

The Road Houses, Downpatrick

A delightful respite from the cosmopolitan buzz of Downpatrick. A couple of miles out of town among some gorgeous scenery. The owners, Dennis and Patricia always provide a friendly welcome.

The Mirabelle Bar, Downpatrick

A selection of world-weary clientelle sit around the tables scowling through tobacco stained beards while their husbands cower at the bar. Can be lively at the week-ends, and is ideally placed for a quick break from your Downpatrick shooping spree.

Dumigans, Portaferry

A tiny pub with a big heart. Always a friendly welcome and plenty of lively chat. Was a favourite haunt of Oliver Reed, and if pressed the regulars will recount anecdotes of his time there.

The Arkle Bar, Downpatrick

The ultimate Downpatrick Bar for a good pint and a pub in a relaxed intimate atmosphere. No airs and graces, just booze and races. Their Monday Club has a vibrancy to outshine Saturday night anywhere else.

Hogans, Downpatrick

Good looking spacious pub, that also serves good food out the back. Tends to go a bit fake-tanny and blond high-lights at the week-ends though.
