The Salisbury, Manchester

I really wanted to like the Salisbury, but it just didn't gel for me. Ales were reasonable and priced as I'd expect in the city centre, but the crowd just didn't reflect what I was expecting given the classically tiled exterior. And yes, the music was a little on the LOUD side.

Kro 2, Manchester

Clean but slightly cold with all that glass and steel giving it a fairly antiseptic feel. Ales were acceptable at 3.00 a pint, although mostly everyday brands. Not really my kind of place, but it seemed busy enough.

Odder, Manchester

A strange little bar (which, I suppose is the idea) with a few ales available which were pleasant, if a little pricey (city centre location notwithstanding). Far from a must visit but OKish.

The Seven Oaks, Manchester

A nice, friendly traditional boozer in the heart of China Town. The Black Sheep was pleasant enough on my last visit and the conversation was lively. A fun little throwback to a simpler age.

The Retro Bar, Manchester

I've not been in this place since it was called the Swinging Sporran and in many ways, it's not changed! Not a drop of ale to be had, alas so not really one for me.

The Lass O'Gowrie, Manchester

Having not been to Manchester for many a year, I was keen to try a few of the old haunts from my University days. I'm pleased to say the Lass did not disappoint and brought back many a happy memory too. Of the ales on, I counted eight and found the Beartown Ginger and Mill Town on top form. May the Lass reign for many a year yet!
