Enjoyed a really good evening in brilliant company just last week. Real ale served for a price that others could not beat and a quality unmatched in the area. Food was top notch pub grub at a price you would find hard to meet if you did it youself. OOOPS, WRONG PUB. I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE PENNY BLACK SITE. Miller5 - 23 Dec 2011 11:17
Called at the pub over the last bank holiday weekend,, the friday night was packed out,,, beer was excellent john smiths extra cold recommended,,,didnt try the food but noticed pie and chips for a pound which im told goes really well in the afternoons.. Would recommend a visit, nothing better than sitting outside on a warm summers evening watching the barges passing through.. Found the price of the beer reasonable compared with other parts of the country and the staff very friendly. Will deffo pay a visit their when im next in the area. cymru44 - 6 May 2010 11:55
What a shame, this pub used to be a terrific place for a good night out but has gone to the dogs under its current management. The miserable attitude of the landlady has driven away all the regulars (or she has barred them) and the pub is now an empty, souless place with a depressing atmosphere. The beer prices must be the most expensive in the area (probably to compensate for the lack of trade), and the food quality is one star. If you are thinking of having a drink in the area I would recommend you go a mile up the road into Northwich. 'miller5' seems to have it summed up nicely. MrMJohnson - 3 May 2010 17:37
Two more cars vandalised. Both cars had the windscreen wipers bent and broken. Looks as if someone else had a run in with you know who! The sooner this pub changes hands the better for us all. Oh to have a local i could go to without getting insulted. Miller5 - 9 Apr 2010 13:23
We moved nearby to the Broken Cross pub about 4 years and thought it would be nice to call there once a fortnight for a Sunday lunch and a pint. We called there the once, the food took ages and was absolutely crap. On a large oval plate there was slices of beef, 2 roast potatoes a huge amount of garden peas and it was all drowned in gravy. A man and his wife at the table next to us were fuming as he was waiting as long as us and when he got he was disgusted too ( he walked out). A few years later we called one evening with a couple of friends, my wife and the other lady went to use the ladies and the door was locked. My wifes friend asked the landlady if she could open the door and she refused and told them to use the gents toilets. My wifes friend said that she didnt want to use the gents as she found that disgusting and then there was an argument as the landlady said "Are you trying to say my toilets are disgusting", the friend said no but to lock the ladies toilets was against all health and safety regulations. We cant wait for the landlady to leave for someone with half a brain cell to run it instead because the pub could be lovely with different people and good food, it cant be that hard other pubs do it! We now use the club down the road where a lot of people comment about the landladys attitude as one time it used to be their local. manning - 29 Mar 2010 22:25
