| Popped in here while staying at the Thistle across the square. I'm guessing it's been revamped since it was last reviewed. I found it to be bland and sterile, a couple of large tvs showing football one night and a thrash metal-type band doing a sound check for a gig later that evening,. | Square one in Middlesbrough is the only decent place you can go to now to listen to classic Northern Soul music with Dj`s Wally Black & Andy playing only vinyl records ( no cd`s or laptop Dj`ing ) We need places like this to keep northern soul music alive, there are many event`s around the country playing soul but they are tending to play modern cross over rubbish . But at square one it is 60`s & 70`s northern with a touch of tamla motown thrown in for good measure . the bar staff are very pleasant ( good looking to !!!)
