For the first time in our 40+ years experience of eating out we were actually turned away from a pub/restaurant before we got anywhere near the door! After driving over 40km to lunch at this place,we approached the entrance and a man came out, said they'd "got the builders in" and they wouldn't be open for "about another hour". We got a half-hearted "sorry" as we walked away. No offer of a drink while we waited or an alternative nearby. Dreadful couldn't care less attitude. So we have no way of commenting on the food etc, and as a result of this shabby treatment we never will. If it is on a par with their customer service then we were probably lucky not to lunch there!

We have visited the pub for meals on numerous occassion & been happy with the food, until last night. We waited about an hour from ordering to having our meal served, our started was the very complicated Mediterranean Bread (3 chunks of bread with olive oil). The next table ordered after us & were enjoying their coffee when our meal arrived. I had to request clean cutlery too as every knife on our table was filthy.
I had the Hunters chicken which was very dry, the cheese had congealed to a solid state again & the bacon was mostly fat, the chicken itself was dry but due to the fact I was hungry by this time I ate it. The peas also were dried up, the whole meal looked as if it had been sat on the warming plate for the hour we waited. My friends meals were not as they expected either, the Pork dry & the steak overcooked.
I complained to the waitress who apologised & offered me a sweet as compensation but I'd seen the dessert menu & found it very limited & not very exciting, so i declined.
To add insult to injury the young barman said "Good night Guys!" as we left, as women in our 40's we didn't appeciate this, surely he knows the difference between men & women at his age.
A real disappointing venue now.

I haven't visited the Boat since the floods until March, it was always a favourite but unfortunately twice now the food has been terrible. The Hunters chicken was so hard it was difficult to eat and my daughter had the lamb with mash potatoe which had such a tiny portion of potatoe it had completely dissolved into the gravy before the table had been served. We tried it again for lunch yesterday and ordered a steak sandwich and chips. The sandwich was cold and the chips were so over cooked they were impossible to eat. It is a shame because the Boat is very easy to get to but we will not be visiting it again.

Food pub. Nowhere to drink. Beer of an average standard and very overpriced for the area (but food OK and good selection of wine!)
