this is a great local - yep, you've got no real ales in there, but you've got a decent range of lagers, and great service. good place for watching the footie, ping pong, darts and table football for entertainment, as well as the events they stick on regularly, like comedy nights and gigs... it's a much better pub than when I first lived in the areas about ten years ago. I'd recommend it highly

Decent enough pub for drinking in before a Palace match but let down by its lack of decent beer.

This pub has a great potential in terms of space and location but you are let down by the deco and the general atmosphere. The beers are ok but average choice. Though service is great, very friendly and prompt, the crowd seem not to be bothered to be there (probably I was just very unlucky).
I must confess that in the summer it gains loads of vitality and it almost seems a different pub.
Wish I could rate them higher as their staff really deserves it!

I haven't been to this place in 20 years, but I note with regret that nothing has changed. I inhabited the area (1983-88) and it was always considered the last place you'd want to drink in - even then.
I suppose that there has to be a refuge for those less fortunate then most of us.

This is an impressive old Victorian building and the ladies behind the bar are friendly...

...but this pub commits the cardinal sin of pubs: there is no real ale. I was told this is because "It's too much hassle". At least they are honest. Most non-real ale pubs come out with rubbish such as "There's no demand for it", but at least this place admits to being lazy.

Real ales need looking after more than lagers, and if a pub doesn't want to put in that extra bit of effort, then that's their choice, but I won't drink there.
