user reviews of the Green Man, Islington

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I live about six buildings away from this pub. It's nice to see a pub that hasn't yet sucumbed to the Islington effect but I'm still too scared to go in.

Lovely room, high ceiling, big windows. Decor that hasn't been updated since about 1987. Before the smoking ban lots of dodgy geezers hanging around the bar chain smoking. Since the ban, lots of dodgy geezers hanging around the street outside chainsmoking and no-one inside.

This place is a dive and is poorly managed. The first time I went there it was in the afternoon. The blonde bar-maid was really nice looking but was too busy playing with her hair to notice I was waiting to be served. Dirty tables and glassed not collected.

This was at the time the only pub I could find on the Essex road with a big screen .Scary people but ultimately friendly. Good value beer- pub and its regulars in some kind of time warp and probably hasn't seen a lick of paint in years.
