The staff are dull and lifeless, the food even worse. And it has it's fair share of weird old drunks who want to chat to you. A very awkward place to drink, I won't be coming back.

Saturday was the first time I had been in here since 1999, so not surprisingly the name had changed and pub had been refurbished. It seemed a little disjointed with a gastro feel at the front of the pub and a pool table at the back.

It was pretty busy due to a show at the Apollo, but the lack of seating due to the oversized sofas taking up most of the floor space did make it looked packed. It took a while to get served each time I went to the bar due to till rolls running out, staff phoning cabs for punters and the locals blocking the bar.

I ended up on the Fosters as I thought that they only had this and Kronenburg, but I spotted a decent lager on the bar nearest to the entrance as I left (D’oh).

I think that if I was in the area again I would try to find another pub to drink in.

Nearest pub to the Apollo. Three rooms knocked through with the bar in the middle room. Pool table in the back section. Sparse decoration. Plain wooden floor. Music played at a decent level. Friendly staff - the woman are quite buxom. Serves two meals for £8 up till 8pm. Bombardier and Courage Best are the casks.

Popped in here for a few before a gig at the Apollo next door - pool table (on which I got trounced as usual - but that's more of a comment on my skills than the establishment, naturally), nice Guinness, friendly and efficient service, and a late-ish licence so there was plenty of time for a couple more after the show, will definitely visit again next time I'm passing
