Outstanding in every sense, there really is something for everyone. Attention right down to the very last detail. Couldn't believe it when I was told the pub has been totally revamped over many years by the current landlord. He was putting some shelves up when I visited. It looks entirely traditional apart from the loos which have to be mentioned as they are superb, automatic lights and flush and a hand dryer that dries your hands! delightful trad wooden bar, slate floors, stained glass, fire places, beams. continental beers including fruit beers, lots of lagers, 6 bitters, large selection of whisky and rums. Chicken curry, top notch. Wife raved about the fresh orange. Games, traditional and modern, live music, Cargo, very good rock band, great beer garden with covered area and heaters with a TV outside. Was really quite peaceful there in the day time, no surprise it got busy in the evening, nice to see all ages in there, great atmosphere. Highly recommended! robgriffs - 31 May 2011 08:24
Visited this pub with friends for the last few years in Feb. Always superb. Great bands on Fri/Sat. But on the other hand, visit at tea time and settle down by the fireside(s) for a quiet pint or two and then watch the pub transform to almost a night club atmosphere as the evening wears on. It's all things to all people. Be sure to visit the loos for a go on the worlds most powerful, (and noisy), hand drier........really! All credit to the landlord for buying this place and apparently making it his lifetimes work to improve it without destroying what a pub should be. Not4johns - 11 Feb 2010 22:09
If I was to design the perfect pub, it wouldn't be far removed from The Sun. Great beer, great music - live and jukebox. Live sport if you want it, though easy to avoid if you don't. Friendly staff and dog friendly. Perfick! traindrivermike - 20 Jan 2010 18:00
Spent a couple of hours in here recently. Decent enough pub with a good, vibrant atmosphere. The type of place you can go for a proper old fashioned night out. Shame that the barstaff insisted on using plastic glasses despite there being plenty of proper ones still available. One of the better pubs in Llangollen though. Well worth a visit if you're in the area. ImOnlyHereForTheBeer - 2 Jan 2010 02:37
Llangollen's must visit pub for the ale drinker. 6 handpumps. If you can tear yourself away from the sublime Shropshire Gold there is always Thwaites Bitter, plus 3 guests and a real cider. Betwixt featured heavily on my visit and Sunlight was excellent. Large bar room with a slate floor, excellent roaring real fire and traditional furnishings. Up the top there's a games room with a pinball machine, pool table and table football. This turns into a stage for the pub's frequent music nights- I can assure that they are crowded! Also a snug behind the bar with a wood burner that opens out into a large covered smokers area. The jukebox is fantastic incidentally, and newspapers are provided. There are also pub dogs that are also boisterous! It seems the pub has been in trouble with the council over noise, although local residents have rallied round. See how that goes. In the meantime, visit, it's brilliant! Carlurmston - 26 Sep 2009 15:25
