Went to this pub last night and although the food was presented beautifully, it was cold. The service was terribly slow and we had to ask several times for some tap water and glasses. When the bill came there was 10% added (which I object to) for service charge which I took off. Wouldn't go here again - try the Grosvenor in Caversham, it is much better MadMumsy - 18 Apr 2008 13:54
Closed for a reason! It is now a lovely pub, not disturbed by the "chain pub" effect, it still retains a lovely charm! I certainly will be visiting more often! Thumbs up! Royalsman - 3 Apr 2008 23:02
The refurbishment is fantastic! i hadn't been to The Pack Horse for ages but got dragged along to check it out ... gorgeous restaurant area, and a lovely cozy bar area, the food was tasty too - I'll be going back. Laiyeny_B - 5 Mar 2008 17:26
After being blinded by the football pitch floodlights posted on the edge of the carpark, we entered into a warm friendly pub. I had been to the Pack horse before it changed to blubeckers and it was dark and unwelcoming, hurrah for the new lived kicked back into this place. The was good and arrived in good time. The one let down, i am sorry to say was the staff, they were nice, but a bit too nice a bit too enthusiastic. After being asked for our order just as our seats were warming up, we asked for another few minutes, 30 minutes later i had to ask to be served. That is only a small quibble but there had to be one....will definately go back again, lets hope they let me after this review. 7/10 fine_eater_24 - 2 Mar 2008 16:55
formerly one of the most divine and traditional hostleries in southern england. Mellow atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, superb real ales, unspoilt rural architecture. So close to the town yet a million miles away in peace and charm. No nasty pipped music just some mellow blues. Good simple honest English food, friendly locals. Roaring log fire in winter. I have heard it is now being turned into a gastro chain pub/restaurant. What an outrage, another piece of all that makes england worth living in destroyed. Stephenreading930 - 4 Feb 2008 19:13
