This pub was run a a woman called Pam for many years whose husband Freddie was in an asylum. You used to get the local pensioner hardman Michael Ismail in. He was a failed bankrobber and you may have heard of him from the press. Others that used to get in with him thought they were the bees-knees but between them they were a sorry lot. It put people off going in and the landlady was too scared to sling them out. They were allowed to drink twenty-four-seven and really put people off coming in. They all had serious cocaine problems and would make no secret of taking it. Its no wonder she lost the pub. However, its no wonder she got out as it was hardly making any money and what it was making was taken by the staff. Its another case of a large good East End boozer gone to the dogs - why should it change now with even less customers?

Paid my first visit here in almost a year and was amazed at how badly it has gone downhill.

Nice breath of fresh air into the area once it re-opened but I avoid it now.. far far far too expensive. Ridiculous. There are more accessible pubs in the area which have more of an atmosphere.
Haven't tried the food - completely put off by the prices!

Paid my first visit here in almost a year and was amazed at how badly it has gone downhill. At 7pm yesterday, there was no ale (real or otherwise), no Guinness and no cider on. (Kroney was the only draught available!!!)The reason all the ales were off is that none of the staff knew how to change the barrel!!

The pub itself was filthy. Each table piled high with filthy ash trays and remnants of food.

Very hard to believe this place won Evening Standard Pub of The Year- I can't remember ever being in a dirtier pub.

A shambles- null points. (I'd stick to the Coborn up the road if in the neighbourhood).
