Two years since the last review!! In those two years a couple has taken the pub over and turned it around from the pub it was before and built up a very good management and staff team. You can expect a much better experience from professional staff striving for the best in terms of customer satisfaction, atmosphere and comfort. The cliental has shifted from the poorly reputed to a much friendlier kind much more suited to mapperley. Yes as any pub it does get busy but in comparison to many the bar service and the food service times are excellent and the best from any wetherspoons surrounding this pub. Beer quality is now a focus with this pub and you will find a good selection of quality beer here. As far as wetherspoon go the food served here is excellent, very quick service, well cooked, well presented and good value for money. Not to mention the "club" days: Tuesday - Steak Club, Thursday -Curry Club & Sunday - Sunday (roast) Club. All Sub £6 and including a drink! This pub is really going up in the world and providing top quality service in comparison to many of its sister pubs and competitors. Well worth a visit!! Matchaow - 12 Oct 2011 21:42
Cant understand why this pub has such a bad reputation. Tuesday nights are excellent for food- a really good steak and a drink for under 6 pounds is fantastic value!!! Staff are polite and friendly and although I used to hear things about a "drug problem" there has been no such problem anytime I have been. I agree with a previous comment that it was probably just the staff being extra vigilant when the pub first opened (which can never be a bad thing!!!) I have had a brilliant time every time I go whether it be on a weekend or in the week. Definatly reccomended SeshOn - 26 Oct 2009 18:13
It is stating to attract a few rough people, I only visit in the afternoon, but I imagine it is worse after 6PM Roberttherailway - 8 Jul 2009 12:02
As per usual, the general British Public jumping to conclusions and not considering the facts. The Woodthorpe Top has infact not had any "Drug Raids" but has chosen to deal with the drug taking that occurs in most pubs in Nottingham and act on it rather than ignore. This proactive, rather than reactive action, has weedled out the drug abusers who no longer come to the pub, but elsewhere where they are given an open invitation to use in the toilets with no prevention in place. Yes, the Pub is regularly busy and does unfortuantely sometimes take longer than you would like to get served, however I dispute the comments that the people is full of "hoodies" as a complete mixed clientele regularly visit the pub. Combined with the fact that tracksuits are banned at the weekend I find this very strange. Correctly though, Wetherspoons is designed to be an affordable establishment that prides itself on their cost effectiveness both to the public, and with the use of recycling etc back of house. Perhaps the beer isn't as nice as the bread & bitter, a quieter and more expensive establishment, but do you get what you pay for ? and if you dont, how are the staff meant to know if you dont take it back and raise comments on its quality! As for UCCVG's comments, you must lead a very lonely life if you haven't met anyone that likes the pub, as there certainly appears to be numerous people! openminded - 19 Mar 2009 12:21
A truly dismal establishment, I've been in 3 times and every time I've had to wait ages to be served, the beer was rubbish and the pub was full of tax dodgers! The clientele spill out onto the street, drunk and swearing at people, there's always police in there dragging hoody wearing 'yoofs' out and i've not yet met anyone that likes the pub or thinks it's a useful addition to mapperley top... It looks nice and could be nice, but instead it's a magnet for chavs Avoid like the plague and go to the Bread and Bitter or Plainsman instead uccvg - 16 Mar 2009 14:58
