Blimey the Intrepid Fox is going downhill faster than a fat girl on a skateboard!

I have come to accept that the toilets will be crap, the glasses filthy and the service diabolical! Over the years these dreadful standards have become par for the course, becoming minor irritations until finally being accepted as part of the lovable "character" of the establishment.

However, there is one falling standard that I cannot appease! On my last visit there were some tremendously average looking people behind the bar, many of whom were wearing far too many clothes!

The truth is I won't mind waiting a few more minutes for a drinky poos if there is a bit of talent to ogle. I believe I speak for all men of a certain persuausion who would agree with me on that one. However, I am not keen to wait for an average guinness when I have to do so whilst averting my gaze from a bit of hairy spanish bum cleavage.

I'd really like to go to the Fox again as I really like the atmosphere and the Newcastle Brown Ale is resonably priced. Yah, ok, its not gonna be the same as the old Intrepid Fox in Soho but then you cant expect it to be. The toilets at the new one are forever getting bunged up but the music is great as you can ask the bar lady what you want and she'll find it on the PC for you. The glass front isnt everyones cup of tea but at least its dark and adds atmosphere. nfortunatly I can't go back there as the idiotic unlicenced door man (I wonder if the local authority knows that?) has barred me as he mistkenly got me mixed withsome else whom he threw out ages ago.

Haven't seen so much leather since the latest DFS sale! Top pub for scantily clad ladies and a good night out....worth a look see ;)

Gotta say, i like it. Yeah, it hasn't got the same vibe as the old place, but in some ways, thats not all bad. I first went to the old Fox in '86 when it was nothing special and watched it grow into a really cool pub. Unfortunately, it went through a silly period with 'dress rules'(funny how these freedom/alternitive types are so into being different as long as its within the rules!) and although i could always get in because of the way i looked, some of my mates who had changed their look as time went by sometimes couldn't, which put a dampner on some evenings. The new place is open to all and is a loud gothy/rocky pub with reasonable priced beer and friendly staff. Whenever anything changes or moves forward a certain percentage of people will say its not as good. I dunno if its better or worse, its just different. Definitely worth going to if in central London, certainly better than all the Lloyds Bars/Wetherspoons/All Bar Ones that dominate the area.

The new Intrepid Fox may have the same approach as the same as the old Wardour Street site but the posey modern glass fronted building in the shadow of Centre Point is a far cry from the dingy hole of the original Fox. These days the Fox appears to have become little more than a tourist novelty than the selective back street institution that it once was. The interior is suitably dark and gloomy with minimal lighting and a gradually increasing collection of gargoyles and skulls to give it a pseudo gothic edge. In a nod to the Hard Rock Café, the front of a car pokes out over the bar. There are (and never have been) any Real Ales, just the usual kegs and lagers although draught San Miguel does at least offer something a bit out of the norm. Prices are quite reasonable and I have found the service from the copiously decorated and pierced bar staff is usually very good given that it can get packed when there is a show on at the nearby Astoria. There is the London rarity of a Pinball machine but it never seems to be switched on when I am in there. Naturally the music is mostly rock, punk and metal and they have the occasional live band upstairs. Metal posters adorn the walls and a trip downstairs to the loos is almost worthy of a trip in its own right to view the decorated walls. There are some seats outside if the noise or the yearning for a fag is too much. For something a bit different, a trip to the Fox is an interesting experience, just don’t wear a suit and tie. Unfortunately, for me, it is too contrived and the ambience too far removed from what went before.
