If you like a good Rack of Ribs then get along to the Village Maid, new to Chef Harry's Menu, they are outstanding!! Beautifully cooked, the meat falls off the bone (they're cooked for 3-4 hours apparently!!) and the homemade sauce is sticky and delicious!! I would have picked at them for hours but Harry needed to clear the plates!

The Village Maid has bounced back to life since being taken over by the new landlord Tony. He has created a really lovely friendly atmosphere, with fantastic bar staff, a good choice of ales and a superb new Restaurant Menu provided by new Chef Harry. As a member of Camra both my husband and his rather descerning ale loving mates all agree that Tony offers a great pint and a superb choice of Real Ales, Lagers and Ciders (My choice being Aspel)!! There is also a good wine choice to compliment the delicious new Menu, which is impressive and is all cooked and presented beautifully. Harry cooks a very nice steak and his chunky cut chips are a winner, not to mention his home cooked steak & kidney pudding - YUM! The whole menu is great and has recently been redesigned with some exciting new dishes but I'm glad to say that his award winning Milk and White Chocolate Brownie Dessert held its place as quite frankly is to die for!

It's definitely still hard work running a village pub but although Bill and Sharon have moved on the Maid still offers an excellent atmosphere and great food and drink with Tony running the bar and Harry running the kitchen. Tony offers 2 real ales in excellent condition while, out back, Harry cooks up a great selection of hearty pub classics. Always worth a visit for a nice leisurely meal or some banter with the locals in the bar.

Great pub, so happy it's open again! New owners Sharon and Bill have worked hard to open this local pub up again and i'm sure you'll love it as much as I did! great beers on tap as well as regular local ales that are always nice. Great local food cooked by a great chef. Definitely check this pub out! I used to live local but travelled a long way to see it in all its glory again. well worth it!

.. and it's OPEN again!
It can't be very often that a rural pub in a village that has another open pub is given a new lease of life by enthusiastic new owners - but that's exactly what's happened here!
Inside and outside the pub looks fresh again after being closed for nearly two years. Great pub grub is back on the menu and two real ales are being served - a mixture of big brands and local microbreweries (including Harwich Town) all in tip-top condition.
Well worth seeking out!
