Not as attractive looking place as you might have hoped for in this beautiful part of Devon.
We stopped here for a couple of beers after walking down from Yelverton and sat in the beer garden.
It was quiet when we first arrived but was getting busier and busier as we were leaving.
Popular with walkers and cyclists.

Some of my family live in Clearbrook and we have been going to the Skylark for some years now, however the pub has got alot better in the last 4 years since Victor's arrival. His food has got progressively better and so has his real ale! The pub as a building wouldn't win any architecture awards but the inside with it's huge wood burning stove at one end has a decent feel about it. He has 4 ales on, when i was there on Sunday 13th Dec he had, Otter Ale, Jaile Ale, Butcombe Bitter and St Austell Tribute, i tried the Jail and the Butcombe, both in good condition but slightly on the cold side, we also have had food there on numerous occasions and it is very good and the portions are huge, you can guarantee a mediteranean twist to some of his food as Vic comes from Gibraltar. Staff are friendly as is the pub dog "Hooch" the black lab loves attention! i'd recommend the pub to most, they are family friendly, dog friendly, muddy boots friendly, what more could you want!

When visiting relatives this is the pub we all choose for a lunchtime meal and drink. I tried the Otter Ale which was on form and deliscious. We usually book in advance for a meal as it can be busy on a Sunday lunchtime, we have found the staff very friendly and the food very good so we keep going back there. They serve the best black cherry cheesecake we have ever tasted, a real treat! We then enjoy a nice walk (weather permitting).

It's not a pretty looking pub, but it is in a wonderful setting. When we visited last Nov this Pub wasn't listed on BITE but as my review is a bit of a contrast to Jay28, I have copied it across from my Journal.
Visited on walk back from Royal Oak, Meavy where we should have stayed! As we entered the young female barstaff rudely pointed out that we only had 15mins to closing at 1500. 4 beers on hand pull: Tetley, Tribute, Otter Ale, Directors. We tried Tribute & Otter. Both were far from clear and had that murky taste. The cellar temperature was also far too cold. Real Ale in a glass should not form condensation on the outside like a chilled lager. Our girls said the ladies loo was dirty and smelled awful. That says it all really! The pub sign should have given us a clue. If they can't get that right what hope is there? Skylarks nest on the ground! Reviewed 17/11/07 by SADCATS on Tour! SCORE-.4

In a wonderful setting in the small Dartmoor village of Clearbrook, I always enjoy my visits to the Skylark. A traditional old Devon village pub with a pleasant beer garden.
The bar serves a good pint of real ale and seems to rotate the guest ales regularly. It has to be said that the pub is very popular for food and most people go there for a meal, but don't let this discourage you drinkers as this place is well worth a visit just for a decent pint in a pleasant atmosphere.
The landlord is very proud of his food and can be heard haranguing the kitchen staff to ever greater culinary efforts at meal times. But this is no Gastropub, the food is basic honest English pub food at its best and reasonably priced too.
I love the place and give it an 8/10.
