Sorry - blame the cider - that should read get down to the Catalans game a week on Tuesday. No apostrophe needed here! Slapped hand! Dave - stop laughing!!! PS - also been drinking Old Peculier this afternoon at the Plough at Warmthorpe - doesn't help my grammar but it's worth a visit as well. Trinity69Tyke - 22 Jun 2008 20:30
OK - bit late but I have to say that the landlord's decision to take out the eminently drinkable Dry Blackthorn Cider and replace it with Bulmers was anathema to me. No pub in the city centre has Dry Blackthorn now (if anybody knows differently please post a message) - we appear to have drifted into Strongbowland - the blandest rubbish available. First taste refreshment my a**e!! Bulmers is slightly better but still too sweet. For anybody wanting decent cider go to Fernando's where you can get 6.0abv @ £2.75 a pint - sorry can't remember the name - still too drunk and amazed about Trinity's fightback in the last 10 minutes against Hull KR. 4th? - get the oyxgen out!! and get down to the Catalan's game a week on Tuesday Trinity Tyke - 22.06.08 Trinity69Tyke - 22 Jun 2008 20:17
Classic Wakefield pub, hasn't changed much, even after the fire. Good value pub grub and as decent a pint of John Smiths you can get. brisk - 18 Mar 2008 13:35
Very handy for Westgate station. The traditional surroundings/decor are pleasant. It gets very busy at lunchtimes - good value food, plain and simple pub grub, nothing fancy. The chips are excellent. Pity about the loud jukebox/piped music and pity about the choice of ale - John Smiths or errrr... John Smiths (fair enough, nicely kept but a very bland pint). Two or three different real ales on draught would make a big difference. triplicker - 14 Dec 2007 14:22
A city centre pub with a wonderful tiled facade, still advertising 'Warick Ales'from long ago. The two front rooms have been 'opened up'into one drinking area. Low ceilinged and sumptuously decorated, complete with historic photos of old Wakefield, it has a great atmosphere. (A back room has been retained for the pool table). Unfortunately, only John Smith's as a real ale, which was served far too cold. However, it was fresh and well pulled. Traditional pub food is served both at lunchtime and in the evening. It looked good value. Offers B&B. Bang opposite Westgate station. A classic example of lovely pub, shame about the beer. aleandhearty - 20 Sep 2007 14:12
