| The original saloon and public bar survived its whole life (now called the front bar and back bar). It was a place for ordinary unpretentious decent Deptford people. I won’t claim to have known it that well, and I’ve never known real ale there, but it had a barman as professional as one could want, attentive courteous, welcoming, pulling full pints, keeping good order…I could go on. Anyway the front bar had been closed for sometime, but now the pub has finally sucomed. Its not clear what its future will be – some say it and the whole block it stands in will be demolished, others that the business is going to be taken on but I doubt that somehow.
