Nice enough pub, mostly given over to dining, but still a pub too. Beers fine, nothing exceptional but perfectly drinkable. Plenty of pump clips stuck on the walls around the bar, which the CAMRA folks always take a being a sign of a good pub, but it was just ordinary cellarbuoy - 18 May 2012 21:57
How can you give any other score but zero for a pub that cant be bothered to stay open on a sunny afternoon cellarbuoy - 13 May 2012 16:33
not impressed !! My pint of Otter Head was barely threequarters full. I asked politely for it to be topped up and was fed some rubbish about it being designed to be drunk through a large head. The attitute of the barman was patronising to say the least. Although our main meals were okay, the portions were tiny and the veg was limited and uninspiring. One of the countys most overated pubs, wont be back in a hurry. westbound - 17 Oct 2011 13:21
We went for a meal a couple of weekends ago on a Friday night. The food here always used to be fantastic and we used to come here 4 of 5 times a year but this time we were really disappointed and we won't be coming back. My french onion soup tasted of hot water, no seasoning at all and was practically see through. The mushroom starter also lacked taste. My chicken curry as a main course didn't taste of anything. The only course that was good, was the steak. We were very disappointed. mop26 - 25 Jan 2010 12:15
Booked a table for a minimum of five with 'Ben' for New Year's day lunch over the telephone. Unsure of numbers at time of booking, I was told 'no problem, confirm exact numbers on the morning'. Confirmed three more to party on the morning. 'Peter', took the call, and said they didn't think they could cope, just saying 'they would try their best'. I referred to the booking with Ben, but Peter claimed that Ben was a junior member of staff, and that he, as owner, had the final say. I asked Peter to check with Ben, and heard 'Peter' shout across the pub to Ben about 'this Hall character' (my name) and Ben confirm the arrangement he had made with me. 'Peter' remained indignant and aloof, so we went somehwere more customer focused (try the Hartnoll Hotel!). No issue with Ben, but 'Peter' needs to go on a customer awareness course.‎ disappointed08 - 1 Jan 2010 18:01
