Brilliant comments. I used to live opposite this place, yes, I mean literally 20 yards away through the door the other side of the cul-de-sac/car-parky type thing. I hated this boozer then - absolutely filled to the gunnels with *ahem* CNUTS - and I hate this boozer now. Sounds like it hasn't changed one bit. I used to prefer the Pembroke Castle at the top of the road - not sure that's even there now - gonna check. Globus71 - 22 Dec 2011 15:17
The bar man is an utter utter CNUT. SACK him and youd increase your custom overnight. danolisebby - 13 Sep 2010 08:43
AVOID!!!! The Landsdowne always had a good reputation for serving fresh, well prepared food with seasonal ingredients but I am sadly to report these days are gone. I went there with a friend for Sunday lunch and we were both hugely disappointed with the food, customer service and general aspect of the place (they had two jars of bloodmary behind the stick ybar ready to be served after the many flies had helped themselves first). I ordered spinach fritters with spicy lentils and my friend ordered the lamb steak with mash potatoes. The presentation of my fritters was quite shocking and it didn't taste good either. Two uncooked oily pancakes with tinned lentils on top of it and some greek salad (!!!) on the side. My friend's lamb seemed much more presentable on top of the mash and a beautiful looking gravy. Sadly, the meat was really tough, over cooked and the gravy was full of vinegar which made the whole thing taste rather sour. I sent my dish back to the kitchen after 2 bites, was offered something else by the waiter but couldn't risk having another badly executed meal and asked for a refund instead just to be told by the manager that it wasn't part of the company policy to offer refunds if the client is not satisfied with the standard of the meal. Great policy!!! I was expecting much more for £9.50. If you are after a decent meal in a pub with good atmosphere, don't bother going there. An insider told me their head chef is leaving looking for "fresh challenges" and the kitchen has been left to under paid trainees. Enough said, the area is full of good options, so look elsewhere but don't waste your time and money there. Camillaro - 5 Sep 2010 19:10
One of those pubs that if you are w*nkey then you will walk in with relish , however if w*nkey doesnt work for you then I suggest you head elsewhere. Drinks fine, staff harrassed but ok, clientele rather w*nkey. Oh you'd like a definition of w*nkey? Affluent, posturing, hearty, over-groomed, over-dressed and over-30. London's full of 'em. BTW I'm middle-class and affluent-carribean(-holiday) so I'm allowed to say such things. coconuts27 - 22 Jul 2010 17:34
I phoned the Lansdowne on Friday to book a table for lunch for me and a group of work colleagues. I asked if I could book a table for ten for 1pm (it was 11:30am at the time) and the person on the other end of the phone told me it was very short notice and I assumed he was going to say that they were all booked up. I was ready to replace the receiver when he said he would take the booking just this once but in future could I make sure I made the booking further in advance. I found myself apologising for the inconvenience, expecting that the pub must be full on a Friday lunchtime, so was particularly surprised when we arrived at 1pm to find an empty dining area apart from a couple eating at a table in the corner. I was the first of our party to go to the bar to order food and stood there ignored by the barman for a few minutes who seemed busy not doing very much as there was no one else at the bar. He eventually summoned the will to take my order whilst managing to be surly and quite unpleasant for the 30 seconds it took. Afterwards I found from speaking to my colleagues that he had been similarly curt whilst serving them. I ordered the mussels which when they arrived were chewy, tasteless and were covered in barnacles which was a bit off-putting. Some at our table already had their food when the surly barman returned to tell us that they didn’t have enough chips for everyone who had ordered (and already paid for) them. Before we had time to register any sort of disappointment he had shrugged his shoulders and walked off. The general view from our party was that the food was at best average and substandard at worst. So unless you are a fan of service where you are treated like an inconvenience and overpriced food you would do well to avoid the Lansdowne and visit any one of the other better pubs in Primrose Hill. finisvalorum - 26 Apr 2010 14:38
