| Visited recently. Good basic pub food. Have eaten here before and food excellent. 2 guest beers. Pedigree and Hobgoblin mineisalandlord - 30 Dec 2011 08:35 |
| A decent enough place that is trying hard to please. Disappointing lack of guest beers as tied in to Marston's unadventurous brews. The one I tried was a good pint though. twohalves - 7 May 2011 12:36 |
| Well ive read steve2905 comments on the Crispin at Ashover and ive visited it on Saturday evening with a party of 3 others and had a great evening of good ale comprising of Oxford Gold, Cockerhoop, Pedigree and Cumberland and the food was as usual when visiting the pub to the highest standard considering the circumtances, The landlord Andy was buried the day before having been ill for several months previous and passing away on New Years eve and the whole of the staff being affected for several weeks as it is a family enviroment the staff take and it's hit all of them as you could tell. Shame you didn't ask steve instead of being inconsiderate with your feelings when the landlady young as she is with her kiddies and the landlord being in his early 40s and them needing support especially now. Sorry but im sure if you revisited now things have re-settled down you might find normallity reigns at the Crispin. rixdname - 19 Jan 2010 19:27 |
The Crispin seems to have gone downhill considerably since my previous review. Still 4 handpulls … Pedigree, Landlord, Brakspear’s Autumn Gold, and the Marston’s Xmas 2009 brew. My pint of Pedigree was OK, but again it was served as a very short measure which I commented on last time. But this time the food was DREADFUL. I ordered a sausage and onion cob with chips. When it was served the sausages looked like seriously over cooked dog turds and tasted even worse. When I order a sausage cob, I expect to be served with traditional kind of English pork sausages, *NOT* cremated poncy tandori flavoured lamb sausage, the first mouthful of which almost made me sick. In fairness I did receive a full refund … but it will be a LONG time before I return. Beer … OK, but short measure 4/5. Food -0/5. So overall 4/10. A final comment ... compared to our previous visit when a lot of tables were reserved, the Crispin this time was VERY quiet. That perhaps says it all …. steve2905 - 13 Dec 2009 05:16 |
| Historic pub though has obviously undergone recent revamp to the interior which still feels a bit too new for an old pub! I'm sure it'll blend in better in time. Very good beer, food not sampled but looked excellent. Slightly posher clientele than the Poets and Black Swan at time of visit, but still welcoming. If you're in Ashover, just try them all.....
