Also went during the beer festival, plenty of beers available with others becoming avaialble later (we were there on the Friday evening) plus half a dozen ciders. Don't forget there is another, usually larger, Beer Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Although in terms of distance The Standard isn't our 'local', it is certainly the best pub near us, and the one I choose to spend my money in. Yes, it's a pity it doesn't have a nice garden, if it did I would probably have to get my mail re-directed there. stuart_p - 19 Apr 2010 11:52
Went during a beer festival, not just any old pub beer festival either, a lot of different beers were on, all in good nick, about 13 beers from the very excellent Dark Star alone! Served in over-sized glasses which makes for the slighty high prices. Friendly pub which is slightly slanted towards food probably for commercial reasons but if you're 'here just for the beer' you will not be disappointed. Abteilung - 4 Apr 2010 13:23
Terrific traditional village pub with a great range of ales - 10 in all with 5 from hand pump and 5 on stillage. Last night included Summer Lightning, York Centurion and Leeds Pale in excellent condition. Wonder if you can get a bus from here to the White Horse at Hedgerley as the two would make the basis of a fine country pub tour. Tigerdrinker - 21 Mar 2010 16:34
Wonderful pub - just too far to walk in winter evenings, unfortunately. motco - 14 Feb 2010 14:46
This is a brilliant pub, 10 real ales available, 5 from the hand pumps, 5 from the barrel. Good, reasonably priced food, fast service and friendly. Outside seating is limited and too close to the road but other than that it has very little against it. Randyray - 23 Feb 2009 22:24
