user reviews of the Shepherd and Dog, Langham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

One Xmas ale on which was reasonable quality - place looks tired, empty and on the way out - needs new owner to take it back to what earlier posts describe - it's a minted area so maybe locals could chip in and buy it. Was going to eat here but after one pint in there just did not fancy it.

Appears to cater mainly to restaurant trade. Fairly large pub with a beer garden out the back and a large car park. Good home cooked food - on the expensive side for pub food but wholesome portions make up for that. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Had four ales when I visited: Nethergate's Essex Borderer and Old growler and then two Greede King ales. Nethergate ales were in fine form. Julian Dicks has moved on now.

Excellent establishment. No jukebox (this pub is not designed with this in mind). Excellent quality food and drink with amasinly friendly staff who are very polite. The homemade food is of the best quality in the country I am sure and is reasonably priced. It's a shame the pub is out in the sticks a little (suggest you get a cab for about 10 from Colchester centre). Currently owned by Julian Dicks (ex West Ham player no longer a "Terminator")!
