| Still the same, pleasant enough but the other two pubs in Solva have more atmosphere. Food OK but staff very indifferent. No smoking area except outside the front door which is a bit iffy in rain and wind. Brains still in control...and the mild is still keg but hey who cares. quizman - 5 May 2009 23:49 |
| I have been going to the harbour inn for about 17 years or more, and I love the place...it's location in out of this world, the beer is good, the staff have always been friendly, the food is always good...especially the sunday carvery!!! It has something to offer all ages. The harbour inn is quite simply a good honest pub! As for the mad mild drinker (see below)...if all you want out of life is a pint of mild, buy your own and drink at home instead of critising pubs if they don't sell mild!! | A popular pub in a quaint little village now popular with the English incomers. The English landlord is friendly enough and having enquired as to whether Brains cask conditioned Dark MILD was still brewed by Brains he commented it still was and last year it had sold like “hot cakes.” So why change it for the usual keg variety? The draught Bass has now gone (although I am MILD drinker, draught Bass is a drinkable alternative), to be replaced by the Brains Rev James and a guest bitter – “Land of My Fathers”. The trendies seem to like this stuff so long as the beer has a suitable title. I don’t think they bother with the taste and they’d probably drink petrol if it came on a hand pull with a posh sounding label – Milford Haven Old Olefin Special perhaps. Still as keg milds go the Brains dark is reasonably drinkable. The food is pretty good and the onion gravy with the bangers & mash was a real treat. Tried a pint of standard Brains Bitter (research purposes only). As expected tasted just like the ghastly John Smith’s. I’ll stick to MILD, PORTER and occasional Bass.
