We visited this pub recently and were delighted with the quality of the food, it was home cooked and my husband had steak and ale yorkshire which was impressive. The beer garden has recently been updated apparantly and is an extremely pleasent area to sit in. We would definitly recommend this pub and would visit it again if ever in the area

I have visited The Lion on several occasions, although service is sometimes slow especially when it's busy, the food is always of excellent quality, you might wait 30 mins for a steak and ale yorkshire but when it arrives it's worth it as the yorkshire is home made not frozen.

Just returned from a meal at The Lion with family and I, along with my sister-in-law, ordered Ostrich steak from the menu. Even though it was a quiet Tuesday night and there were only 5 in our party and the only other people in the place it took 1 hour and 30 minutes before our meals arrived. The other meals (steak pies and curry) looked very nice and we eagerly awaited our steaks. When they arrived we could not help but laugh as they were so small. We each had one minute steak each that was wafer thin and measured about 2inches - and they were charging 11 each for them. I asked the landlady when she brought the meals over about the size of the portion and even if you put them together on one plate you would be disappointed and hungry after them. She was not very happy and kept saying how much she had paid for them and they were expensive for her to buy. Her attitude was awful and everytime she came past our table she kept saying in a loud voice 'Will buy cheaper cuts next time'. It spoilt our evening out and I would never recommend this place to anyone - very slow service, very small portions and extremely bad attitude of the landlady.

While on a recent canal trip I visited this pub. Several puibs/hotels in the area where closed for no apparent reason. It was therefeore a pleasant surprise to find this one open. The landord and staff were very welcoming and the locals were very friendly. The beer (Courage Directors and Wadworths 6X)was good and the food excellent.
