We used this pub this year during Aug 2008. The barman was over familiar and the prices horrendous. The food was very mediocre. I asked for breakdown of the bill when I did not get handed one and I was told that it was not possible. The lady serving became flustered and curt with me. As I was politely insistant about seeing the breakdown believing there must have been a mistake the manager was called from upstairs to work the comuterised till. After 30 minutes they were able to reconcile the bill for me. The landlady was most indignant about being called away from watching 'x factor' on telly upstairs. I was made to feel the difficult customer rather than her apologising for a her staff not being competent with the computerised till. newinnwoodman - 4 Sep 2008 15:13
Great food, very nice steaks, sauce, veg and side salads. Good selection of cask ales, Theakston Bitter, TT Landlord, Directors, Flowers and Cask Boddies although the quality was not the best. The Theakston, Landlord & Directors that I tried were all a little cloudy. Need to improve the cellermanship (pipe clean?). But all in all a great pub location and value for money food. stevane - 12 Jul 2008 18:27
Lovely to sit by the canal on a hot day. Decent beers but I wouldnt go unless the weather is good enough to sit outside. DixieLand - 17 Apr 2007 02:38
i completely agree with the comment below, its got to be the second dearest pub i have ever been in in my life (the first being the combermere arms at burleydam) and the landlord and lady are very impolite and flat. living just outside audlem myself, personally i do not go to the shroppie as i do not rate it at all, the atmosphere is not good, the whole style of how the pub is laid out to the general waitressing style is very unprofessional, for this i do n ot blame the waitresses at all, if they had any proper training then they would be amazing, and they are doing the best of a bad set up. the food tastes microwaved and deep fried and i would not recommend it to my worst enemy! whereas the lord combermere on the sqare in audlem is a whole different matter, if you go to the shroppie then to the combermere you will see my point, its efficient, professional and the food is amazing. bobabelle - 9 Apr 2007 23:12
