user reviews of Corum, Battersea

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Just a slight, slight qualification to my bile filled post below - I did happen to wonder in, completely mullered, a few days ago and the place did seem to have had something of a pleasent refit, with a more expensive and geniune classy feeling. Admittedly this had lead it more towards a resturant angle and alas the clientele/beer problems/general letching is pretty much the same.

But still, this does deserve it be raised up to a better 3/10. Might have been higher if I had been able to see straight.

It says a lot about my criminally poor timing that at the very moment I pledge to stop using bollock metaphors and the word “turd” in my pub reviews some dear soul decides to add Corum to this website.

The reviews so far are fairly good, and I would therefore like to start by stating very firmly that everyone is entitled to their own viewpoint. However, I personally find it difficult to articulate my feelings about this swanky Satan pit without resorting to the vulgar end of my vocabulary.

To put it bluntly this place is a big, steaming turd in almost every single regard. It`s interior is a noxious attempt at classiness that is undone primarily by a budget that can’t stretch beyond IKEA-lite (in some cases decaying) bright sofas, soulless bar area, cheap shiny surfaces and crappy over wattaged lighting. Naturally this pretentious mess attracts a fair share of Clapham’s arsefull suits who are low on charm but fully equipped with a whole tank of slimy chat up lines and various forms of letching. Rather oddly, these marvellous examples of humanity are joined by a surprisingly high number of Chavs and Chavettes who seem to wash in from the dodgier parts of the surrounding area with some loud and occasionally agro related results.

However, while all these flaws are appallingly gittish, by far the worst piece element of Corum is the warm urine that is pisses out of the taps. I haven’t, in truth, come across many pubs/bars where I’d describe the booze as always poor, as usually a sub-standard pint is the result of a one off problem (i.e. bad barrel, unwashed system etc). But the Corum’s lager is unremittingly warm, gut churning and taste bud snapping: a sort of heated toilet duck. Yes, now and again a good one slips by, though honestly I`ve never been in a place where so many people get arm ache from handing back pints.

Is there anything that redeems the Corum? Price wise its as expensive as anywhere in Battersea/Clapham and while there is free entrance I`m not sure if its worth it considering the burberry brigade’s subsequent presence. So the only real saving grace I can find is the staff, who considering the rubbish they have to put up with both in front and behind the bar, are gold winged angels.

Ultimately this sole chink of light gives the Corum a 1/10 – though my God I am tempted to go for a big fat zero.

A bit rah, rah, rah for my liking but open late and no entrance charge so cant be bad. Dont expect to get away with a cheap night! Luckily they take creidt cards so you shouldnt be financially embarassed

Indeed very heaving on a recent Saturday night visit - I think that in addition to the usual people there was a birthday party on. Offers good range of cocktails, wines and beers although as might be expected rather pricey

Particular highlight was Accountant/businessman type, 35ish, dressed in suit, sitting drinking Veuve Clicquot champagne at the bar and offering it to women who walked by - unsurprisingly most felt able to resist him. Apart from the odd sleazy character like him its all good!

Hip and trendy bar and restaurant on Queenstown Road, open late. Tends to get rather full on Saturday nights
