| rampantwurzel - good news. the white hart is a great pub, although it may have a poor selection of real ales. and the food does vary, cheap and plentiful but not always the best quality but they do try. personally i have had many a good time there over the last 7 years. It has a wide variety of customers, young and old, local and new to the area and it manages to provide something for all of them. As for this chav business what you mean is that it actually has some young locals in it. This may seem unusual in London, and indeed this sort of thing seems to upset a lot of people, but this pub is all the better for it. (sussh dont tell anyone but I heard that most of them dont even have a first degree let alone a post-graduate qualification) If you want a pub with a clientel that consists of 90% graduates from outside of London then this isnt the pub for you. But if you want a pub with a good mix of people where you might end up having a laugh then give it try. tombs - 29 May 2008 16:03 |
| Been there a few times, food choice went down when it changed hands. I have since found out where the previous landlord went, but not tried that place for food yet.... it's a pub in Greenwich, which has just been done up, so I'll have to check it out. ALL of this said, I met a friend there for Sunday lunch recently, and it was very decent grub, and not badly priced for a Sunday Roast. I do agree with some of comments about the chavs, this is usually when arsenal, man utd, chelsea, west ham or liverpool are playing live on the TV - yes, I've been there a few times. They turn up with their bling, and mostly fake at that, hold onto one pint, jeer at anyone who supports the opposition, rather than friendly rivals banter, and make the place less pleasant... once their match is over, they leave - pointless people!!! All of that said, I'm aiming to go back again with the same friend, especially now football season is over for another roast. Before I get slated for comments about the football chavs. I LOVE the game, and I also enjoy many other sports, but the chavs who go in there just for a match and leave, ruin the place. | An embarassment of a pub, havign now had two moderated reviews of this place I can confirm two things about this place 1. Poor selection of ale, and none kept in any kind of standard 2. Lots of kids on disco biscuits, 'avin' it, and probably on some kind of mock-er-nee knees up As mentioned in the other White Hart review this makes a terrible trio of pubs in close proximity and given the (poor) choice so tricky to pick which one I'd drink in. So instead I'd rather drink Super K outside the LHT Bar as at least when I collapse in an alcoholic coma there may be at least one nurse who can help. This place can be remedied and fixed but it really needs to start with basics (ie. clean up its act, no silly chav disco, better beer, better decor....) and then it may stand a chance. On the other hand, if your clientelle don't want it to change, why bother? Not for me.... Alternatively, I may never come to East London ever again. rampantwurzel - 7 Apr 2008 15:46 |
| A big corner pub with a lot of natural light. Only ale on handpump was the ubiquitous London Pride, which was a bit gassy and too cold, but generally tasted OK. Fair enough pub which fits into the “OK” but nothing out of the ordinary category. Definitely better than the Blind Beggar though. RexRattus - 29 Mar 2008 11:16 |
| Found this rather interesting pub last night and my friends and I had a great time!! Very nice food, drink and company! Met a guy called Alex(Italian) and left without his number stupidly. If anyone knows him or how to get hold of him PLEASE let me know......Thanks :) Dominique SmileySaffa - 5 Mar 2008 09:17 |
