deceptively roomy.....very busy late on Fri/Sat nights......one of the few "local"pubs that opens 12 lunchtime....excellent service........takes a while to be accepted by locals, but well worth persevering...good beer garden & function room...surprisingly moreish hand-pulled beers....serves pickled eggs!!

A bit like the Angel - this is a great boozer. I used to hate this pub but I quite like it now - full of locals rather than students, not just one age group either. Nice and relaxed, can gte pretty packed.

Great little boozer, very friendly staff. Bit of a gamble sometimes busy, sometimes empty. A good stop off when on a crawl around the centre.

Drank in here a few times now, always has an excellent pint of cask Banks's Original MILD on handpull. They also serve the keg version, presumably for when the cask ale runs out. Took the kids here on one occassion and they were welcome to sit with us out in the back garden/yard.

Only the brave student ventures in here initially, but they will be rewarded with a bar that is essentially someone's front room, where the locals will all stop to stare at you before warily returning to their pints, keeping a beady eye on you throughout your stay. Well worth sampling once!

Used to serve cockles but they are now sadly extinct. Beer is decent.
