Nice enough pub in its own right. But knowing the Engineers Arms is just down the road, somehow detracts from your enjoyment of this one. Ossett Silver King, Youngs Gold & Adnams Broadside were the 3 ales on offer. Cider was Aspalls. Low beams and a large fireplace create a fairly authentic feel. It's also much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, with plenty of separate drinking areas.

The below quote just about sums this place up, although you can add well kept ales and a clean, cosy atmosphere to that. A glance at the menu tells you that some ingredients are locally sourced, which is nice to know. If you're in Henlow and want to eat, this is the pub for you, but for a drink the Engineer's Arms wins hands down.

"Standard pub grub served in a timely manner from a friendly face."

We visited today (Sunday). Two out of three meals were good; one wasn't but we complained and received an instant refund. The service was very good (one unfriendly waiter but the others were really pleasant) - quick and attentive. Unfortunately I have to agree with a previous reviewer - there isn't much vegetarian choice (today it was either mushroom soup or a cheese and spinach filo parcel). I would return and think it's worth a visit. We all enjoyed our puddings.

Large pub, well laid out, with pleasant bar / lounge surrounded by seating and beyond this rooms to either end which felt like dining areas. The whole place, despite being very quiet, yesterday 12:40, evoked an atmosphere of country dining pub, albeit the specials menu was very limited. The whole feel of the place is enhanced by photos, prints, brass plates, knickknacks, bed-warming pots, grandfather clock (defunct) and hop garlands around the bar and throughout. Mellow soundtrack, Dean Martin etc. Just IPA & Broadside on handpump, though the latter was very good. Lots of picnic sets outside so I imagine it will be very popular with families in summer. Pleasant pub, glad I popped in.

A good simple food pub, the type where you get a wooden spoon with a number on it! Standard pub grub served in a timely manner from a friendly face.
