I think you have a habit seperating fact from fiction - so lets draw a line here. We were asked just once to keep the noise down, from the start before we struck a note and we obliged - indeed we have played venues before where they have asked us to turn UP the volume. Once again, I stress we played one song which was our sound check after which we were asked to leave. There were no repeat requests to turn the sound down. After sound check we were told to leave I then asked for you to which I was informed you weren't there - clearly a lie then as you claim you were present, however how am I to believe you say you were there when your story is a complete fabrication of the truth. When I protested that the least the pub could do would be to compensate us for our petrol expenses we were then attempted to be bullied into playing 2 more songs at which point I realised whatever we did you would screw us over. I appreciate to a man your age our music probably is a racket however I assure you that you are alone with your opinion and our fans and many many more people who have witnessed our shows would rush to disagree with you. Its also sad how you accuse me of acting like a spoilt child when i'm making a legitamate response on this site about our experience with this pub. Surely a man your age would be able to be the bigger man and not be drawn into an arguement over something you claim you couldn't care less about and about a band you haven't even seen! As far as i'm concerned this has been put to bed but should you insist on the last word I won't be bothering to check what it is. mdab1290 - 11 Nov 2009 21:47
your digging yourself deeper as i was present at the pub that night ( not when you arrived but soon after ). you also did more than half a song, you were asked to lower the volume half way through the first bit of racket you made , also you cant compere the volume of others venues with ours as we had strict instructions to keep it lower than we normally do. being as you were repeatly asked to lower the volume ( but with avail) also some punters left due to the poor quailty of what they were hearing during setup was the reason for you being ask to pack up. maybe the other venues you claim to play dont mind that sort of racket you guys make but we wont accept it and when you were asked to sort it, it was you that lost your rag first, the landlord only retailiated and it was me that actually calmed him down ( strange being as you claim i was not there ). i did not mention your outburst to anyone either as i didnt really think it was worth a carrot let alone discussing with others. so stop carrying on like a spoilt child and put this to bed chuckiegem - 26 Oct 2009 16:43
chuckiegem the fact you were not present at the pub on the night we were scheduled to play shows how little you know about the situation we encountered. The fact we were told to go home after playing half a song on sound check at half the volume we usually do at other venues makes a mockery of a pub claiming to have 30 bands on its books - a pub that from a few enquiries with the local council, has clearly had its complaints from local residents complaining about noise pollution. My band have no microphones fitted to our drummers kit, and we use an outdated PA system capable of a third less noise other bands have. I find it ironic you claim my comments as uncalled for and of having sour grapes about my band when we have played nearly 50 different venues in the past 5 years and never been treated with such disrespect as when we 'played' at The Sussex. It is also ironic that following your comments, you have obviously mentioned them to regulars and no doubt to the landlords who have quickly lept to your defence on here within 48 hours of your post, or is that they are shocked that someone would dare to criticise a poorly run 'pub'. I await follow up responses with great anticipation! mdab1290 - 24 Sep 2009 23:03
I agree - mdab1290 carries a major grudge. Landlord is one of the best I've come across in over 30 years of drinking. ecksact - 23 Sep 2009 15:27
must agree with chuckiegem, great pub, live music second to none parking spaces well take your pick. the landlord is a great chap, one in a million..I think the band must have upset him quite badly if he went off on one, never witnessed anything like it in the pub myself and i have been drinking there for the last 18 months. only setback is no food served but A funfilled night is had by most, most nights of the week. try it for yourself and i think your agree that mdab's comment is sour grapes. highly recommended grinnyman - 19 Sep 2009 10:48
