I like this place-full of chatacters and open mic nights on Thursdays-a bit off putting at first as some of the customers look decidedly dodgy-but it has always been a welcoming place.

Visited last Friday and all as described by previous reviewer 'Blackthorn'. Doom Bar and Tribute were available (1 pump clip turned around). Tribute was excellent and wish I had time to stay for another. Bar staff polite and good service, pub overall is good and bigger then you think from outside.
Excellent local and wish it was closer to my home

This pub is now a quality boozer! The present landlord and landlady are bang on the money with their ideas... The pub used to be a dive & I would steer well clear, now I am finding myself frequenting the charming bar more and more.. There always seems to be something going on no matter what night I drop in... Much prefer this to the Shakespeare that seems rather pretentious and in need of a good scrub.

Much improved since my last visit, which was a few years ago. Itís been done up and now seems to be a decent community pub, with an emphasis on music. They have live bands most Fridays and Saturdays, and an open mic night on a Thursday. There were some fairly serious looking speakers in the lounge, but fortunately these were not in use on our visit.
The bar area has a pool table and table football. Thereís a plasma that was showing football, but that was in the lounge area which seems odd. It would have been better placed in the bar I would have thought, especially as it was on rather loudly and had just one guy watching it. Other than that, the lounge area is quite decent with comfy bench sofaís around all the walls and some interesting local art.
Bar staff seemed friendly enough, and on this occasion were serving Doom Bar, Tribute and Flowers. Ciders were Stowford Press, Blackthorn and Thatcherís Dry (coming soon).
