This pub is rapidly going down hill fast - the music that they have on is absolutely crap apart from Tyler on a Sunday (wrong time to have him on). The food is overpriced and cooked in old fat, the landlord is grumpy and proud of it but doesn't make new comers welcome. The place needs an re-vamp or knocking down and rebuilding and the tenants need replacing quickly before is goes to the wall, take a look aorund it it is filthy dirty and hasn't been decorated in a very long time, it needs attention by the brewery fast!!!!!

18.09.07. 2 days after the Pink Dolphin charity day and my ears are still ringing - what a fantastic time, Stella and Krissi Du Cann (who is an act that plays in the pub regularly) arranged this day to raise money for the Breast Cancer Unit at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. There was singing, raffle, auction, Drag Queens, comedy, rude bits (after 7.30pm when the kids have to vacate the premises), the place was packed all of the regulars supported this and lots of new faces too. Stella laid on a free buffet (very nice it was), Glen (landlord) really got into the spirit of things by putting on a dress and wig and all the money he raised by doing this went to the charity - well done Glen. Another great night in the Sussex Coaster that raised 2000 for such a good cause.

I have been a regular at the Sussex Coaster for over 9 years now, I find it friendly and welcoming, as a female I feel comfortable going into the pub on my own and most people give a smile and a wave. The landlard Glen is renown for his grumpyness but it is all a show he is really a lovely guy, Stella is a great lady who has a good business head and keeps thing going, Sue and Jeanne the bar ladies are great fun and are always dancing around on Saturday night when the music is playing and never forget what you drink. the pub is a bit dated but a Spring clean is on the cards, they have kept up to date by adding a Plasma tv and a screen so that the customers can watch football etc, the beer garden is a real asset and is great for catching the sun. The food (although only served during lunch time)is freshly cooked and well presented and very good value. As for trouble in this pub it just doesn't happen, BECAUSE of the Pubwatch, this means that all bar staff know who is banned and keep to this and this leads to a better place. Hopefully this is one pub that will still be standing for many years. Keep up the good work.

I have been a regular customer for about 5 years & I find 'The Coaster' staff & customers to be both polite & friendly.
The new patio garden is excellent & must seat about 50 people.
The live music every other Saturday night can be questionable but on the whole is very good.
I am looking forward to the big charity day on Sunday 16th in aid of the 'Pink Dolphin appeal' (The new breast cancer unit in Brighton) as it promises to be a fantastic day.
This is a good pub and I will be marking the dubious comment that slates Glen & Sue for removal as I find the comments both derogatory and unfounded.
I agree with Kathy & hope Glen & Stella stay for a long time to come.

I meant to add my name to the review below as I am not afraid to stand up and be counted in my opinion that the Coaster is a great local.
