Went for the second time last weekend. Enjoyed a drink here before but never had food. Very pleasent garden but very busy. Friendly staff seemd hurried but didn't have to wait too long. Ate tapas style and thought it very good. Definatley going to go back if the we get the long hot summer we are promised. boomer - 24 Jun 2009 19:22
This rating is pretty much spot on. Went there last Sunday. Staff look rather shabby and are not very attentive or enthusiastic. The menu layout was terrible and we were given the wrong menu twice. The food is very over-priced. My steak was average (but costs £16). The veg was rubbish, no greens with the steak or the roast dinner, just red cabbage, a boiled carrot sliced in two and naff potatoes (I think the chef had used the wrong variety for roasting). Salted cod as a starter was just mushy bland fishcake. The beer garden is overcrowded with cheap garden furniture. I think this place is a bit above it's station and either needs to improve pretty much everything or lower their prices. The toilets are a reminder of what this place used to be like. Dirty old pool bar. Funkyhomo - 10 Jun 2009 10:41
I went here yesterday with my husband. We usually go to The neighbouring Swan but my husband, being a licensee wanted to try a new venue. We liked everything about the place. The food was very good honest Anglo/Spanish grub. Cooked very well. Ales and pimms were excellent. Only negatives were that the garden became a creche anf the ocopus could have done with a little more acidity. well worth a visit. Rebecca & Stephen Hall rebeccahall - 26 May 2009 15:03
Good points 1st about this pub! 1. It has a beer garden out back. Bad points. The food and drink are both indeed over priced, the chef seems to know what he's doing but the prices do not reflect his small salty portions. The staff are very laid back, looking like poorly dressed students, if i'm going to be charged the amount i was i'd at least like the staff to make an effort! As for there attitudes? Very clicky, snobby & snooty, my waitress was trying to smile but it obviously didn't come natural to her. Dirty and uncomfortable tables and chairs which looked like they had been taken from a 1950's school. Needless to say i will not be returning. Pubwatch181 - 11 May 2009 13:42
The current rating (3.5) does not reflect the quality of this pub. I have been here several times now and have been pretty impressed on each visit. The service was good and the food too; my boyfriend enjoyed the black sheep as well! Great beer garden, and beautiful dining room. Highly recommended. heidir - 13 Dec 2008 11:22
