A great and authentic victorian interior. Nicely un-packed compared with the other pubs in the Royal Mile area. The bar girl was very friendly, but I realised that the reason nobody frequents this place is that the beer is truly lousy. My entire group left most of their drinks behind. For some reason, all of the tables and chairs are bolted down here. They obviously want to preserve the period glasswork. jonnytuna - 5 May 2010 14:08
Great oasis just off the Royal Mile tourist strip. Don't appear to do real ale, but the Guiness is fine. Quirky hours and closed Sundays, but that adds to the charm. PeteGroves - 26 Jul 2009 21:14
Don't know about a good pint of 80/- ... it's a good beer mug of 1980. And that is generous - I'm having 1962 shouted at me. Truth is it isa good pint, no other options and it is a funny place. Why oh why is there so much space behind that bar? Gotta like it. Boongie - 12 Aug 2008 23:11
Being my first time in Edinburgh drinking properly I sampled this one at the end of the day around 10 pm and was not disappointed. It was my favourite of the session with it's 30s or 40s music, proper beer mugs, old fashioned landlord and a nice photo of the queen behind the bar. ZACKBLONDE - 1 Mar 2007 00:14
Nice place, the kindly expalined to this visiting Londoner was '40' is and gave me a bit in an old school glass mug. As the other enteries say: it's got a great, old fashined pub decor which I do like. Even the formica tables that are bolted to the ground. Enjoyed it alot. MrScott - 6 Nov 2006 14:58
